Lanna Golf Course, covering an area of 700 rai, is conveniently located 10 minutes from the town centre of Chiang Mai and is within the Lanna Sports Center. There are 3 nine-hole courses. The first and second nine fairways are tree-lined and fairly long while the third nine has six of its holes within the race track and short. Towards the west, One can get a beautiful view of the famous Doi Suthep temple. Accuracy is the key word for a good score at this beautiful golf course. As golf is a popular past time in Thailand, the course can be quite crowded from afternoon onwards. If you would like to ensure of getting a slot and not be disappointed, you can book your tee-time at least 24 hours in advance. However they will levy a charge of 40 bahts per person which is non refundable. F&B is reasonable. You can have a meal of say fried noodles and a can of soft drinks for around 100 Bahts. If you are staying in the town center, transportation there by taxi should not cost you more than 200 baht per direction.Tel: (053) 221 911 221 556

Open daily 06.00 - 18.00 except that one nine will be closed for maintenance. |
Situated in the lowlands, only 20 minutes from downtown Chiang Mai, this Dennis Griffiths & Associates designed championship course offers an unusually tough challenge. The heat and humidity, along with the 7,200 yards of wide open fairways, tough water hazards on every hole, plenty of bunkers, and few trees, make for a difficult and thirsty round of golf. Ideally played in the early morning or late afternoon, due to lack of trees, this tournament calibre course has Chiang Mai's most superbly conditioned and maintained fairways and greens. The clubhouse is a model of excellence.

Sculpted from fertile orchards in the foothills 20 minutes north of Chiang Mai is one of Asias finest courses. Beautifully designed 6,700 yard, par-72 jewel from 2004 by Seni Thirawat is risk-reward, as its lush, narrow fairways slither through the sweetly scented mango, citrus and lychee Garden of Eden like the golden pythons golfers sometimes see. Throughout the year the air is sweetly scented with fragrant blossoms, and the trees laden with fruit. Created Banthun Tantivit, the clubhouse, restaurant, lodge, golf course and extensive practice facilities are impeccably first-class
Chiang Mai Highlands was designed by Schmidt-Curley, the same creative team responsible for the redesign of Muang Kaew Golf Course in Bangkok and many of Asias exciting new courses. The course itself is set in the hills outside Chiang Mai, giving golfers the distraction of magnificent views on every hole. The design is exciting and challenging for a player of any level but offers the choice of 5 different tee locations making everyones day pleasurable.Chiangmai Highlands is the newest course in the north and offers a golf experience beyond any other course in the region. Chiangmai Highlands has a superbly maintained practice facility with several practice greens, short game area and a 300 yard driving range with a passpallum grass tee.
Only one hour south of Chiang Mai is Gassans new Khuntan Resort. Khuntan means Devil Mountain and this 18-hole, 7,100 yard, par-72 creation from 2004 is devilishly difficult. Tucked in the dragon-like folds of Lampangs foothills on a riverbank, the distinctive design of the course, clubhouse and resort is pure eye candy. Its target golf/risk-reward style, the lack of a practice range, no golf course guidebook, and clever optical illusions make hitting the right shot, with the right club, to the right spot a true test
Many of the par-4s can be driven yet danger lurks. The short approach shots to the greens demand precision and proper placement so Lake City rewards thoughtful play over pure power. A third golf course Gassans Marina is already under construction and scheduled to be open in late 2006.
Designed by 5 times British Open winner Peter Thomson and Michael Wolveridge, this 6900 yard, par 72, park-land style course is located 30 minutes from Chiang Mai, in the foothills of Northern Thailand. The 2000 rai site, a former fruit orchard, provides breathtaking panoramic vistas of mountains in the distance.

The Sansai Golf Course - sorry the Golf Avenue at Sansai Golf Course - is a short par 3 course. In 2008 it was closed for a period while the driving range and course were renovated. The result is a more professional driving range and huge improvement in the greens on the course. Now the course is excellent either as a warm up course to practice your short game, or as a course for beginners to learn on.

There are several places to play tennis in Chiang Mai. Three of the more popular with tourists (as they are relatively easy to find) are Chiang Mai Land Sports Center has 3 courts, the 700 year stadium has 12 courts and the Amari Rincom Hotel has 1 court. At each of these locations, which can all be booked in advance, floodlighting makes it possible to play in the evening when it is cooler. There is an additional charge to cover the cost of electricity.

Swimming Pools in Chiangmai Open to the Public
Chiang Mai swimming pools open to the public vary in quality, cleanliness and accessibility. On balance, those pools which are operated to internationally recognized standards of water quality are those which are privately owned by foreign investors.
There is an Olympic Pool at the Seven Hundred Year Stadium - a huge sports complex built for the SEA Games, which were held in Chiangmai in the early 1990's, and now a public sports and recreation center. This is located along the Irrigation Canal Road, Route 121, towards Mae Rim. It is about 8 kilometers from the city center and takes about fifteen minutes to get there by tuk-tuk/taxi. The pool is sanitized using chlorine.
is in "Chiang Mai Land" off Chang Klan Road. Open to the public current (2008) prices are 50 Baht per Adult and 30 Baht per child. It has a pool deck and also has a restaurant and pool-side service. The pool is about 5.5km from the city center and takes between 10-12 minutes by tuk-tuk/taxi. The pool is sanitized using chlorine.

- Fishing, Spend a half day or more game fishing with your own guide Suvit. Note that the half day trip takes you to a fishing park, not "proper" fishing as such but landing a 15kg+ Giant Mekong catfish is a lot of fun.
- Fishing in rivers and lakes, Fishing for native species in natural waters only is offered by Asian Angling Adventures, who specialize in lure or fly-fishing. The venues are the various reservoirs and rivers near Chiang Mai.
